History is central to a liberal education at Carleton, developing students’ critical research and writing skills to address the complex dynamics that have shaped our shared pasts and present experiences. Our department’s specialists study history all over the world ranging from ancient to contemporary eras, with expertise in policy, health and the environment, gender, race, religion, and public history. History majors design their own individual paths of study from a wide variety of course offerings.
